Yesterday, we had budget hearings with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Association (PEMA) and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). It was great to discuss important topics like EMS funding and making higher education more affordable with our state agency officials.

2024-25 Budget Hearing with PASSHE

I had the opportunity to ask PASSHE officials about investing in workforce development programs for our future leaders. By investing in PASSHE students, we are investing in our Commonwealth's future. These students tend to stay in Pennsylvania where they contribute to our economy and our communities. We need to bolster these opportunities for our future workforce.

2024-25 Budget Hearings Underway

Budget hearings are now underway at the state Capitol. Some of the highlights from hearings included conversations with leaders at the Department of Community and Economic Development and the Department of Revenue. Also, the House Housing and Community Development Committee unanimously approved my legislation to create an "attainable housing community" designation which is aimed at addressing the housing shortage plaguing growing communities across the Commonwealth, like those in Cumberland County. I hope you'll follow along with me as we continue to dig into the details of the governor's budget proposal.

I had the opportunity to interview Tim Schaeffer from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission at the Great American Outdoor Show. We had a great conversation about the ways you can have fun on the Commonwealth’s waterways, including those in Cumberland County, while prioritizing safety.

The 87th District Spotlight features JnS Dairy on the border of Upper Allen and Monroe townships! I had the privilege of speaking with Jason Nailor to learn more about how the milk from his 70 cows is used by local producers like Land O'Lakes and Turkey Hill. Jason also highlighted the need for more processing plants in Pennsylvania which would help keep milk at a lower price locally and drive up revenue for farmers.

Advocating for Pennsylvania’s First-Time Homebuyers

When young Pennsylvanians buy a home, they plant roots that affect the long-term fiscal health of our Commonwealth. With homeownership for those entering the market becoming less attainable, I am concerned about Pennsylvania’s economic future. It’s incumbent upon the General Assembly to take action and implement programs that help our first-time homebuyers achieve the American dream.
