The cost of owning a home has more than doubled in the last four years, and it is impacting growing areas of our Commonwealth, like Cumberland County, the most. House Bill 126, which I am proud to cosponsor, would establish a first-time homebuyer savings account program to help young Pennsylvanians overcome financial obstacles to homeownership. This legislation received overwhelming bipartisan support in the House, and I am hopeful it will continue advancing swiftly through the legislative process.

Closing costs have become a barrier to first-time homeownership, but we're working to change that here in Pennsylvania. This bill is a tax cut that would help incentivize sales to individual buyers and save first-time buyers $4,500 on average at closing. This is a win for buyers, sellers, taxpayers and the free market.

During a budget hearing with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, I had the opportunity to ask state agency leaders how the new formula would account for population growth to ensure Cumberland County receives its fair share of funding.
