Reflecting on 9/11
Sept. 11 will always be remembered for heartbreak and heroism, but it also left us with a lesson that still matters today. When the world felt uncertain, we leaned on each other first. Neighbors helped neighbors; strangers stood side by side, and the division that often defines us faded.
More than two decades later, the challenge is different, but the call is the same. To honor the lives lost that day, we can carry forward a spirit of unity, choosing to see one another as fellow Americans before anything else. That, more than anything, keeps the memory alive and worthy of the sacrifice made.

Kicking Off Football Season at CVHS!
Last Friday evening, I had the chance to connect with neighbors before the Cumberland Valley High School football game. We shared legislative updates, enjoyed a little tailgate fun, and celebrated the excitement of Friday night lights in our community.
It’s always a privilege to spend time with residents outside of the office setting, especially at events that bring people together. Thank you to everyone who stopped by before kickoff! I look forward to more opportunities to meet with you and hear what matters most to your family.

Starting the New Week with Reading at Elmwood Academy
This past Monday, I had the chance to visit Elmwood Academy and read to students to help kick off their week. Even at 8 a.m., when the energy can be a little lower, the excitement in the classroom was clear.
Opportunities like these remind me how important it is to stay connected with our schools and students. I’m grateful to Elmwood Academy for welcoming me, and I look forward to being back in the classroom again later this month!

Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy Accepting Applications for January 2026 Class
The Keystone State ChalleNGe Academy (KSCA) is now accepting applications for its January 2026 class, and for the first time, prospective cadets can apply online through a simpler, faster process. There is no tuition cost to attend, and meals, housing, uniforms and school supplies are provided at no charge.
The KSCA is designed to give teens in jeopardy of not graduating on time or dropping out of school a second chance at obtaining their basic education and much more. Cadets learn leadership, self-discipline, job skills, health and hygiene, values of community service and civic duty, physical fitness, and responsibility to build a better life.
A new online eligibility checker at pa.gov/ksca helps applicants quickly confirm they qualify before completing the full application. Applicants can also request a mailed form by emailing RA-MVPACHALLENGE@pa.gov or calling 717-861-7767 or 717-861-8831.
The National Guard Youth ChalleNGe Program currently operates 37 Youth ChalleNGe sites in 29 states and territories. The program is both federally and state funded. More details can be found at pa.gov/ksca.

Keeping Kids Safe in the Car
In recognition of September being Child Passenger Safety Month, parents and caregivers are reminded to ensure children are correctly buckled in the right seats for their age and size.
State law requires children up to age 2 to be secured in a rear-facing car seat, while children under the age of 4 must be restrained in an approved child safety seat. Children must ride in a booster seat until their eighth birthday. Parents are also reminded that due to potential dangers associated with air bag deployment, children 12 and younger should always ride buckled in a vehicle’s back seat.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends keeping a child in a car seat for as long as possible, provided the child fits within the manufacturer’s height and weight requirements.
