Election Day This Tuesday

This Tuesday, Nov. 5, is Election Day! Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to verify your polling place for in-person voting.

Voters who have chosen to vote by mail-in or civilian absentee ballot must have those ballots back to their county board of elections no later than 8 p.m. on election day. If you choose to deliver it in person, you can only return your own ballot, not anyone else’s. And no one can deliver your ballot on your behalf unless you are a voter with a disability and have designated someone, in writing, to deliver your ballot, or if you need an emergency absentee ballot. Click here for more frequently asked questions about elections from the Department of State.

More information about voting is available at www.vote.pa.gov.

Thank You, Veterans!

This morning, I hosted my annual Veterans Breakfast for veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families who reside in the 87th District. It was an honor to thank about 100 local heroes who served and protected our great nation. It was also great to hear from my colleague Rep. Zach Mako (R-Lehigh/Northampton), who was our guest speaker.

Thank you to all who attended and everyone who contributed to this special event for our local heroes!

Mt. Holly Marks the Repair of Ridge Road

This week, I joined state and local partners at Ridge Road in Mt. Holly Springs to recognize the work that has been done to repair the road which is home to a number of residents. For years Ridge Road was in disrepair, and I was glad to join Sen. Greg Rothman (R-34) and Mt. Holly Springs Borough in advocating for funding to rehabilitate the road.

As a result of the repairs, emergency responders will now be able to access homes along Ridge Road and flooding to nearby homes and to Trine Park will also be mitigated.

Thanks to the public works crew for Mt. Holly Springs Borough and to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) team who completed the repairs. Thanks to the Cumberland County Conservation District for making Ridge Road a priority with its grant funding as well.

Back in the Classroom at Elmwood Academy

It’s always great to spend the morning with our future community leaders! I joined fifth graders at Elmwood Academy to read a story and asked them what books they are all reading for class.

Childhood literacy is one of the most important issues we can focus on as a society, and I was proud to share a message with all the students to encourage them to read more as they continue their educational journey. It was a special treat to see so many students again that I welcomed to the Capitol last year.

Thank you for having me back to Elmwood!

The Beat Goes On

On Tuesday, the Peyton Walker Foundation recognized the individuals involved in the 4-Minute City program’s first-ever save. A team of people from the following groups worked together to save a life: Cumberland County 911; Upper Allen Fire; Life Lion EMS; Upper Allen Police; bystanders who performed CPR; and Alan, the 4-Minute City community member who intervened with his AED.

This was the very first save in the United States with the 4-Minute City program. The Peyton Walker Foundation is one of three locations in the country to roll out this initiative, so it was a huge milestone to have this happen in Upper Allen Township.

It was a privilege to advocate for a $457,466 grant to support this amazing program. The grant was awarded last week as part of the state’s competitive Local Share Account program.

Understanding Human Trafficking Seminar

It was a privilege to once again partner with Greenlight Operation and Upper Allen Township to host a human trafficking seminar for the community. This week’s seminar “Understanding Human Trafficking” touched on a variety of issues like human trafficking’s impact on the central Pennsylvania region, as well as how to recognize, report and get involved in anti-human trafficking efforts locally.

Human trafficking is a heinous human rights crime. I remain committed to advocating for increased public awareness, as well as legislation to fight back against it in the state House.

Grant Seminar Available Online

On Sept. 10, I hosted a Grant Seminar for local municipalities and non-profits to learn how to better secure state, county and local grant funds to invest in the 87th District.

You can watch the seminar in its entirety here. Or, you can visit my website at www.RepKutz.com/Video/LatestVideo.

Don’t Forget to ‘Fall Back’ Saturday Night

Daylight saving time will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. Be sure to turn your clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night.

It’s also a good time to check or change the batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms in your home. In addition to regular battery changes, experts say the alarm devices should be replaced every 10 years to better ensure your safety.

Oh, Say, Can You Sing?

The Pennsylvania Farm Show is a little more than two months away, and the Department of Agriculture is inviting Pennsylvania singers to enter “Oh, Say, Can You Sing?” a star-spangled sing-off to win a chance to sing live at the event.

Each morning, from Jan. 4-11, the Farm Show will start by featuring an individual or group singing the national anthem live. Top vote-getters may also be selected to sing at special events, such as the opening ceremony on Jan. 6.
The contest is open to Pennsylvania residents of all ages, both individuals and groups, and the deadline for submissions is Nov. 17. For details, including how to enter, click here.

New Grant Search Tool Streamlines Access to Funding

This week, the Commonwealth Office of Digital Experience (CODE PA) launched a new resource that makes it easier for residents, businesses, non-profits, schools, and local governments to find and apply to grant programs from state agencies.

The new discovery tool allows users to search for, sort, and filter information about grants based on the type of applicant (business, individual, non-profit, public agency, school, etc.), category, application deadline, location, and other criteria. The search results include links to each program, including information on who the funding is intended for, the application process, key dates and deadlines, eligibility criteria, and where to apply.

Check out the new resource on PA.gov!
