Rep. Kutz, Policy Committee Hears Need for Commonsense Regulations

The House Republican Policy Committee held a hearing at the state Capitol this week to discuss the best pathways to crafting commonsense regulations and review the impact of existing ones on our communities. In the video linked above, I asked about homeownership initiatives, which include my legislation to exempt first-time homebuyers from the realty transfer tax.

David Burton, senior fellow of Economic Policy at The Heritage Foundation, said there is room to improve the regulatory climate by effectively addressing issues such as tax rates, occupational licensing and permitting. He noted from 2018 to 2021, Pennsylvania ranked 42nd out of all states in terms of growth rate. And in terms of the Forbes ranking for best states to do business, Pennsylvania ranks 27th.

The committee also heard from Bob McCafferty, operator at North Country Brewing in Slippery Rock, and Jelden Arcilla, chief nursing officer at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, about the problems created by regulatory overreach.

Video of the hearing is available here.

Recognizing the Future of Agriculture

February 18-25, 2023, is National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Week, a time to recognize the premier youth organization preparing members for leadership and careers in agriculture.

Founded in 1928, FFA was established to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population. There are nearly 9,000 FFA chapters combined in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Pennsylvania FFA Association consists of more than 13,000 members from chapters across the Commonwealth. It is a student-led organization whose mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
